Moulay Abdellah Amghar celebrates his moussem

An appointment is made in El-Jadida, from July 6 to 13, to live to the rhythms of folklore and fantasia.
Moulay Abdellah Amghar celebrates his moussem

And it is in the ancient city of "Tit," 10 km southwest of El-Jadida, that a sumptuous canvas village will be set up for the occasion of the great moussem of the Amghariyines, housing the temporary homes of the families. More than 22,500 caidal tents will be erected for the event, along the coastal road, near the "mahrek," the ground for traditional equestrian arts to welcome riders, guests, and folk troupes. This moussem brings together more than 400,000 people who come from all corners of the Kingdom to pay their respects at the tomb of the saint Moulay Abdellah Amghar, whose sanctuary is meticulously maintained by his descendants. In addition to events of a religious nature, this event also includes cultural, fun, and entertainment activities. Unmissable, the fantasias evoke warrior battles, songs, and folk dances recall the way the "fighters" entertained themselves. During 7 days, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to sunset, the 1,600 riders, majestic in their white djellabas and traditional finery, will compete in an atmosphere of popular celebration, in order to testify to our attachment to the values of our civilization and our traditions. Obviously, it is the horse that will be in the spotlight. In addition, a show will punctuate the opening of the festivities with a folk representation of the fantasia, punctuated by folk troupes (Ghiyata, Issawa, Dakka marrakchia, Gnawa…). The nocturnal fantasia shows will be organized during the week of the moussem, July 7 and 8. The evenings will also be very lively throughout the period of the moussem with a panel of artists and entertainers to accompany the festivities, such as Ouled Ben Aagida, Adil El Miloudi, Ould Mbarek Lakhribgui, Hamid El Mardi, Aabidite Rma (Siada), El Miless, Mouss Maher, Khadija Markoum, Abdelâaziz Stati… In addition to the shows of these artists programmed by the organizers, festival-goers will be able to attend open-air shows "halkas" within the "mahrek".

Fantasias, falcon hunting, culinary arts, musical and folk evenings… pleasure of feasting under tents, such is the atmosphere that reigns during this moussem. And it is precisely thanks to these ingredients that this festival, colorful, has been able to establish itself as a landmark event of the region. The fame of Moulay Abdellah Amghar has crossed the borders of the Doukkala and even those of the Kingdom. Also, the moussem of Moulay Abdellah, celebrated for hundreds of years by the tribes of the Doukkala in memory of the saint "Moulay Abdellah Amghar," is mentioned in guides and foreign satellite channels as a show of choice for tourists. The organization of this edition was once again entrusted to the company "Scoop.com," directed by the young jdidi, Najib El Ghaïtoumi, in partnership with the commune and the Provincial Association for Cultural Affairs.

History of the places

Let us recall that Moulay Abdallah is located 10 km from El-Jadida, on the site of the ancient Tit "Aïn El Fitr," the spring where stopped, in the second half of the 11th century, Ismaïl Amghar, an ascetic who lived in Medina in Arabia, and his brothers, who walked straight towards the sunset to the Atlantic, on the Moroccan coasts. At that time, the Almoravids reigned over the Maghreb. Today, "Tit" is known by the name of Moulay Abdallah Amghar, a son of the founder who created a zaouïa with a second mosque within the enclosure of "Tit" and whose fortifications he completed.
