April 2, 2012, is the date set by the Court of First Instance of El Jadida for the hearing of all the city's notaries, following a lawsuit filed against them by the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG).
Last year, an inspection commission found that these notaries continued to hold onto their clients' transaction funds, contrary to legal provisions that require them to transfer any unclaimed payments to the CDG within 60 days. It should be noted that recent years have seen strong activity in the real estate sector within the prefecture, which was ranked 5th nationally (according to the city's Registrar). At the same time, the activity of notaries has seen significant growth throughout the Kingdom, and the misconduct committed by some of them has led some behind bars and others before disciplinary commissions.
