Bouznika gets into the spirit of Fantasia

The 2nd edition of the Bouznika Tbourida (Fantasia) Festival, "Khayl wa Khayr", which will take place from 20 to 24 August, features a rich and varied programme to celebrate this popular and age-old art. Held under the theme "Khayl wa Khayr", this edition includes Tbourida exhibitions performed by Sorbas (34, including one female group) representing the different regions of Morocco, an exhibition of visual arts focused on horses, as well as spaces for promoting local products, organisers announced on Tuesday during a press conference in Bouznika. "For this edition, we have dedicated spaces to the promotion of local products to highlight the agricultural potential that the Chaouia-Ouardigha region abounds with, and to help local associations and cooperatives to add value to their products, promote them, and market them," stated Mohammed Kharroussi, president of the local Association for the Development of the Horse and Fantasia, the initiator of the festival. Organised in coordination with the municipality of Bouznika, the prefecture of the Benslimane province, and the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse, this equestrian event will also be marked by the setting up of a blood collection unit aimed at raising awareness among the local population and festival-goers about the importance of blood donation, Mr. Kharroussi indicated. He further noted that several workshops on painting, calligraphy, and initiation into horse riding and horse morphology are on the programme. A children's village has also been specially created for the occasion with the aim of entertaining the little ones of the region through a panoply of fun and educational activities, highlighted Bouchra Charaf, a festival animator. Concerts hosted by local musical troupes and Moroccan artists are also on the festival menu, said Cherki Serouti, the festival's artistic director. The Bouznika Tbourida Festival aims primarily to preserve the age-old art of Tbourida, while putting it at the service of social and human development, and to transmit to future generations the values of respect, courage, and honour conveyed by this noble conquest of man that is the horse, the organisers assure.
