Agadir – The Agadir City Council held an extraordinary session yesterday, Thursday, dedicated to discussing a set of vital issues related to urban planning, promoting sustainable development, and improving the living conditions of the population.
According to a statement from the Council, the members of the Council approved the development plan for Greater Agadir, which aims to keep pace with the development the city is experiencing in terms of urban planning and strengthening infrastructure.
This plan aims to provide a group of neighbourhoods with public facilities and equipment, including multi-purpose halls, swimming pools, sports fields, local markets, green spaces, parks, and educational, health, and tourist institutions, in addition to creating a new road network connecting these neighbourhoods to the rest of the city.
The members of the Council also approved the creation of an integrated ecological district in the “Aghroud” area, which will enable the preservation and enhancement of natural components according to a special study for managing this area.
Regarding transport and urban mobility, the Council discussed amending the articles of association of the local development company “AGADIR MOBILITÉ SA”, and it was approved to expand its competencies to include the management of car parks, the development of parking facilities, and the completion of related studies, with the aim of improving traffic flow within the city.
The amendment of the tax decision was also studied and approved to achieve financial balance and support local investments.
Within the framework of supporting the local economy, the Council approved the amendment of a partnership agreement for the rehabilitation of the traditional industry complex, which aims to improve the complex's facade, redevelop its internal facilities, and convert the former vocational training centre into 39 professional shops, which enhances the attractiveness of the sector and supports local artisans.
The Council approved the programming of the actual surplus of the 2024 budget, which amounted to more than 255.36 dirhams, where a part of it will be allocated to pay the Council's obligations in the urban development programme, while the remaining part will be directed to finance structural development projects affecting various vital sectors in the city (culture, sports, connection to the water network, development of green spaces, improvement of road infrastructure and urban signage, and strengthening public lighting).
In order to develop the tourism sector and enhance the city's attractiveness, the Council approved a partnership agreement between the Agadir City Council and the “Regional Development Company for the Promotion of Small, Medium, and Very Small Tourism Enterprises of the Souss-Massa Region” (SDR TPME smart tourisme).
This agreement aims to attract investments and activate the delegated management model for strategic projects, including the Inbiâat Urban Park, where the mechanisms for its exploitation will be determined according to modern standards that ensure its sustainability as an integrated recreational and environmental space.
The management of the “Bab El Marsa” project, which includes a fish market and commercial and tourist facilities, was also approved, and the delegated partner will be responsible for preparing and equipping the project, and providing technical and administrative support to the owners of shops and restaurants, which ensures a successful start for this important economic project.
In a related context, the Council approved a partnership agreement with the National Agency for Water and Forests to rehabilitate the surroundings of the Grand Stadium, which will contribute to improving the general landscape and enhancing the attractiveness of this sports facility.
