Agadir – The Agadir Municipal Council held an extraordinary session on Thursday focused on examining several issues concerning the dynamics of urban development and the improvement of the population's living conditions.
Thus, the members of the Council approved the development plan for Greater Agadir, which aims to support the city's growth by rethinking its urban planning and consolidating its infrastructure, indicates a statement from this elected body.
This plan notably provides for the rehabilitation and equipment of several neighbourhoods, as well as the implementation of new infrastructure including multi-purpose halls, swimming pools, sports fields, local markets, green spaces and urban parks, as well as educational, health, and tourist establishments.
The members of the Council also validated the creation of an eco-neighbourhood in “Aghroud”, designed to combine residential development and the preservation of natural resources, in an approach of environmental sustainability.
In the field of transport and traffic, the Council examined the expansion of the powers of the local development company “Agadir MobilitĂ© SA”, in charge of parking management and the improvement of traffic infrastructure.
Similarly, a revision of the tax regulations was approved, in order to ensure better budgetary balance and create favourable conditions for local investment.
The Council also approved the rehabilitation of the craft complex, a structuring project that provides for the renovation of existing spaces and the conversion of an old training centre into 39 new professional premises intended for artisans.
This initiative aims to promote local artisanal heritage and strengthen the economic attractiveness of the sector.
The members of the Council also approved the allocation of the actual budget surplus for the 2024 financial year, which amounts to more than 255.36 million dirhams (MDH).
Part of this amount will be allocated to the municipality's financial contribution to the Urban Development Programme, while the rest will be dedicated to financing structuring projects in various sectors (culture, sport, road infrastructure, public lighting, development of green spaces, and beautification of the city).
A partnership agreement with the municipality and the regional development company “SDR TPME touristiques- S.M.A.R.T. Tourisme” was also adopted, with a view to boosting the tourism sector and attracting investment.
This collaboration provides for delegated management for the implementation of strategic projects, namely the “Al Inbiâat” urban park, whose operation will be optimised according to modern standards ensuring its sustainability as a space for leisure and relaxation.
In addition, the members of this elected body approved the “Bab Al Marsa” project, with a view to strengthening the local economic dynamic by supporting traders and restaurateurs in their activity.
This project, which will be entrusted to a specialised operator in charge of its development and operation, consists of a fish market, shops, and tourist spaces.
Furthermore, the Council validated a partnership with the National Agency for Water and Forests for the development of the surroundings of the Grand Stade d'Agadir.
