A rich and varied programme of entertainment and activities has been prepared by the commune of Agadir for the celebration of the Amazigh New Year (Id Yennayer 2975).

Scheduled from January 10 to 17, "this celebration is part of the continuity of the Royal decision announced by HM King Mohammed VI, to establish January 14, corresponding to the first day of the Amazigh year, as an official public holiday in Morocco," states a press release from the commune of Agadir, noting that "this Royal gesture reinforces the recognition of Amazigh culture as an essential component of Moroccan identity".

The festivities programme will cover 12 locations in the city, including public squares, gardens, and the Anza and Agadir promenades, offering residents of the capital of Souss and its visitors an exceptional opportunity to enjoy activities and events in a festive atmosphere.

The public will also have the opportunity to see exhibitions of craft cooperatives and local products, showcasing the creations of artisans, as well as a photographic exhibition illustrating the richness and diversity of Amazigh cultural heritage.

On the menu for "Id Yennayer 2975" are also conferences that will address themes such as "Amazigh identity in light of the 2024 census" and "Amazigh television and drama production", with the participation of Amazigh experts and researchers.

Citizens and visitors to Agadir will also be able to attend major artistic evenings organised on three main stages: Tikiouine, Al Amal square, and the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella.
These shows will feature the biggest stars of Amazigh music as well as performances by Raïs and Ahwach.
Furthermore, as part of the film programme, the film "Mouga Yushkad" will be screened in Anza, Talborjt, and Bensergao.
To enrich the experience, tasting points for Amazigh dishes will be set up along the Anza and Agadir promenades.
A "Tanggift" show will present the traditions of authentic Amazigh weddings, accompanied by artistic troupes representing the cultural diversity of the Souss-Massa region.

Organised in partnership with the Souss-Massa Regional Council, the Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council, and the Timitar Festival Association, the "Id Yennayer 2975" event aims to promote Amazigh culture as a fundamental element of Moroccan identity and to consolidate the values of coexistence and cultural openness.

It also aims to position Agadir as a tourist and cultural destination of excellence, nationally and internationally, in accordance with the commune's action plan, which aims to make the city a cultural beacon and a universal capital of Amazigh culture, the press release concludes.
