Yesterday evening, Monday, the sky over the Agadir corniche was decorated with spectacular fireworks displays that varied in colors and shapes, creating a charming atmosphere that dazzled those present in celebration of the Amazigh New Year 2975.
As midnight on January 14 approached, the audience present, of various ages and nationalities, enjoyed a combination of lights, colors, and different rhythms, as the sounds of joy blended with every flash of light decorating the sky, in a scene that embodies a wonderful mix of the authenticity of Amazigh traditions held along the Agadir beach.
These festive atmospheres also formed a symbolic moment in which the residents of Agadir bid farewell to the year 2974 and welcomed the new Amazigh year 2975 with optimism and renewed ambitions that the new year will be a year of goodness and blessing for all Moroccans.
It is noteworthy that the "Id Yennayer" 2975 Amazigh New Year celebration aims to promote Amazigh culture as a fundamental component of Moroccan identity and to consolidate the values of coexistence and cultural openness. It also seeks to promote the city of Agadir as a distinguished tourist and cultural destination at both the national and international levels.
This celebration comes in line with the high royal decision announced by King Mohammed VI to make January 14, the first day of the Amazigh year, an official holiday in the Kingdom of Morocco; which reinforces the recognition of Amazigh culture as a fundamental component of Moroccan identity.
Celebrating "Id Yennayer" represents the beginning of the agricultural season for the Amazigh people and reflects the attachment to the land, given that this event has always been linked to agricultural activity.
It also carries great symbolism that reflects the rootedness and diversity of the Moroccan cultural fabric, as well as the will to move forward in activating the official status of the Amazigh language.
