The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, confirmed on Sunday in Agadir that the government is committed to implementing the official status of the Amazigh language.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of his participation in the celebration of the Amazigh New Year 2975, Akhannouch explained that several projects have been completed in this context aimed at integrating the Amazigh language, particularly within public administrations and the educational system.
In this context, the Head of Government expressed his deep gratitude to King Mohammed VI, who decreed the constitutional recognition of the Amazigh language, as well as making January 14, corresponding to the first day of the Amazigh year, an official holiday in Morocco, adding that the celebration of the Amazigh New Year is an opportunity to highlight a cultural heritage shared by all Moroccans.
During this ceremony, which took place in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, in charge of Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Lahcen Saadi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, Governor of the Agadir-Ida Outanane Prefecture, Said Amzazi, and the President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council, Karim Achengli, Akhannouch visited Ibn Zaidoun Park, where he toured an exhibition of craft cooperatives and local products that highlights the creations of traditional artisans.
Furthermore, at the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella site, a space was organised to taste delicious Amazigh dishes, alongside a series of musical performances by some stars of Amazigh music.
The Agadir Commune has prepared a rich programme for the “Yennayer” celebration until January 17, in honour of the Amazigh New Year 2975.
This celebration, organised in partnership with the Souss-Massa Regional Council, the Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council, and the Timitar Festival Association, is in line with the Royal decision announced by King Mohammed VI to make January 14, the start of the Amazigh year, an official public holiday in the Kingdom of Morocco, which reinforces the recognition of Amazigh culture as a fundamental component of Moroccan identity.
This year's edition of the “Yennayer” celebration is distinguished by a rich and varied programme, covering 12 locations within the city, including squares, parks, and the Agadir “Corniche”, offering the residents of Agadir and its visitors an exceptional opportunity to enjoy various activities and events in a festive atmosphere.
