Agadir: Opening of a new factory for the "Leoni" group

This new production unit, the completion of which cost an investment of 230 million dirhams, is located in the heart of the Souss-Massa industrial acceleration zone.

The area of this unit is 7.6 hectares, of which more than 19,000 square metres are dedicated to production, and it will have a significant impact on the local economy.

This project will enable the creation of more than 3,000 direct job opportunities by 2027, bringing the total number of jobs within "Leoni" in Morocco to 19,000 jobs.

In a speech on the occasion, Mr. Akhannouch said that this investment would strengthen the Kingdom's position on the global automotive industry map, and that the confidence of the German "Leoni" group confirms the dynamism and growth witnessed by this sector in Morocco, thanks to the insightful vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which makes Morocco a preferred destination for global leading companies in the automotive sector.

He added that this project will also strengthen Agadir's position as a new industrial hub, given the city's potential in terms of modern industrial and logistical infrastructure, in addition to the vocational training system that aligns with the needs of companies.

For his part, the member of the Executive Board and CEO of Leoni, Ingo Spengler, said that the presence of "Leoni" in Agadir reflects a strategic decision that proves our firm commitment to Morocco, highlighting that "this approach demonstrates our conviction in the potential of the Kingdom, as well as in the dynamism of the African continent, and confirms our ability to turn our commitments into concrete actions, as it will strengthen our competitiveness in the commercial automotive sector, while applying smart and increasingly mechanised operations within our global production network".

For his part, the Director General of "Leoni" Morocco, Fakhri Bouguerra, pointed out that the city of Agadir offers a highly qualified workforce, in addition to significant growth potential thanks to modern infrastructure and the large space available at the site, which creates an environment conducive to innovation, sustainability, and competitiveness, and enables "Leoni" to be a key player in developing the automotive industry in Morocco and international markets.

He added that "the opening of our new site in Agadir represents a decisive step in our strategy in Morocco, and reflects our firm commitment to the Kingdom. By choosing to locate in this region, we participate in strengthening the local economy and developing innovation and excellence in the automotive technology sector, and it will also provide thousands of direct and indirect jobs, which reflects our will to support industrial growth in the Souss-Massa region and contribute to the progress of the Moroccan automotive industry".

It is worth noting that this inauguration represents an important step in implementing the investment agreement concluded between the "Leoni" group and the Moroccan government, which aims to complete six major projects in the automotive sector.

These investments, which total more than 932 million dirhams, are distributed across several regions of the Kingdom, and are expected to have a significant impact on the local economy.

It is expected that these projects will result in the creation of 7,100 new job opportunities by 2027, which will contribute to strengthening the Moroccan industrial fabric and stimulating job opportunities in the automotive sector, with positive repercussions on the national economy in general.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, the Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Karim Zidane, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, Said Amzazi, and the President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council, Karim Achengli.

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, presided today, Monday, in Agadir, over the inauguration ceremony of a new factory for the "Leoni" group, a global leader in wiring systems for the automotive industry.
