A wind of hope has just blown over the shores of Agadir. The statistics for December 2012 announce a clear increase in terms of arrivals and overnight stays compared to 2011. Rising from 50,112 in 2011 to 57,974 in 2012, the number of arrivals saw an increase of +15.69%. The same observation applies to the number of overnight stays, which went from 223,901 in 2011 to 271,826 in 2012, an increase of +21.40% during the same month compared to 2011. This growth is primarily attributable to the Russian market, followed by the Dutch market. The Swiss, Belgian, British, Spanish, and French markets are also among the markets that recorded an increase. Nevertheless, the Polish and German markets continue to plummet. That said, the average length of stay during the month of December recorded an increase, i.e., 4.69 in 2012 compared to 4.47 in 2011. Note that the average occupancy rate in classified hotels in the city of Agadir during the month of December 2012 recorded an increase of +14.42. Furthermore, it is the nationals who occupy the largest market share for the month of December with 34.62 arrivals and 21.34 overnight stays. The French come in second place with 2.81 and 25.81, while the British occupy third place with 8.77 in overnight stays and 11.69 in arrivals.
Thus, the analysis of the tourism situation during 2012 confirms a clear increase of +4.05% in terms of overnight stays and +0.24% in arrivals compared to 2011. The distribution of cumulative arrivals and overnight stays during 2012 by main markets highlights certain markets in increase, among which we note the Saudi Arabian market in first position. The Spanish market comes in second position, followed by the Russian market, while the national market arrives in fourth position. However, the statistics show a real change in the situation. Let us highlight the decline of several source markets that had until then been attracted to the destination. For example, we cite the French market, which recorded a decline of -2.72 in arrivals and -6.05 in overnight stays. The same observation applies to the German and Polish markets, which fell by -2.48 and -10.04 in arrivals and -3.72 and -17.42 in overnight stays.
