The fish landing point (PDA) of Tifnit is now operational, the National Fisheries Office (ONP) announced on Wednesday in a statement. Presenting an investment of 42.5 million dirhams, this project, whose work was launched by H.M. King Mohammed VI on 15 January 2011, aims to support this sector in order to improve the living and working conditions of 500 fishermen operating on 170 artisanal boats. Built on a total area of nearly 15,000 m2, the Tifnit PDA, managed by the ONP, is equipped with modern means for the organisation of the electronic fish auction. It includes a first activity zone comprising shops for sailors and an equipped hall dedicated to the marketing of fishery products, and a second equipped for administrative management needs to organise the social and collective life of the fishermen, according to the same source. A convention was signed between the ONP and the local cooperative of fishermen, aiming to allow the sailors to have all the infrastructure and means capable of structuring the sector. Located on the Atlantic coast, 30 km south of Agadir, Tifnit has a beach sheltered in a cove, 4 km long. Fishery resources are the main source of income for the population.
