The Wali of the Fez-Meknes region and Governor of Fez Prefecture, Mouad El Jamai, announced that the Unified Regional Investment Commission has approved, since 2022, approximately 192 projects in the Sefrou province, with investments exceeding two billion dirhams.
During a communication meeting held with key stakeholders and investors in the Sefrou province last Friday, El Jamai confirmed that the Commission approved projects worth 290 million dirhams during the last quarter of 2024, representing 66 per cent of the files submitted.
Regarding public investments, the Wali of the Fez-Meknes region noted that the Sefrou province benefited from investments worth 6 billion dirhams between 2015 and 2023.
During this meeting, which highlighted the region's potential and future ambitions, El Jamai emphasised the importance of cooperation with the private sector to achieve the goals of the New Development Model.
He stated: "Our goal through this meeting is to launch a participatory dialogue to highlight the vital sectors in the region, improve its attractiveness, and attract more investments," highlighting King Mohammed VI's vision regarding economic development and investment in infrastructure.
He also stressed the ambition to make the Fez-Meknes region a distinguished economic hub, based on a sustainable and inclusive development model.
In this context, El Jamai reviewed the advantages of the Sefrou province, particularly its qualified human capital, rich historical heritage, strategic geographical location, and its potential in the fields of industry, agriculture, tourism, renewable energy, and technology.
He pointed out that Fez hosting major sporting events between 2025 and 2030 will contribute positively and directly to the radiance of the region in general, and the Sefrou province in particular, enhancing its position as a distinguished tourist destination.
For his part, Omar Touimi Benjelloun, Governor of Sefrou province, reviewed the specific advantages of the province, particularly its availability of 118,000 hectares of arable land, olive, apple, and plum orchards, in addition to its significant livestock herds.
He also pointed to the industrial potential of the region, including the Ain Cheggag industrial zone which is now ready, and the future industrial acceleration zone which is currently under study.
Regarding the tourism sector, Touimi Benjelloun emphasised the historical richness of the Medina of Sefrou, the Bhalil caves, and the natural beauty of the region, in addition to the Cherry Festival (Hab Al-Moulouk), which is a hundred-year-old event that contributes to enhancing the province's tourist attractiveness.
The provincial governor pointed to a number of structural projects, such as the "M'dez" dam, which is 99 per cent complete, and the hydro-agricultural development project for the Saiss plain, which will allow for the irrigation of more than 60,000 hectares.
For his part, Abdelouahed El Ansari, President of the Fez-Meknes region, emphasised the importance of advanced regionalisation, describing it as a decisive stage in the Kingdom's development path.
He noted that the New Development Model is based on four main pillars, including the pillar titled "Territorial areas capable of adaptation, and as spaces for consolidating the foundations of development.".
In this context, El Ansari highlighted the initiatives and structural projects launched or programmed by the Regional Council for the benefit of the Sefrou province, whether within the framework of the program contract between the region and the State or the Regional Development Program (PDR).
This meeting comes within a series of consultations organised at the regional level, with the aim of strengthening the local economy's dynamism and making the province a model for sustainable development.
