The provincial vigilance committee of the Taounate province held a meeting on Monday at the prefecture headquarters, dedicated to presenting the provincial action plan to address the effects of the cold wave and the repercussions of climate fluctuations on the target population, and to assess the proactive measures taken in this regard by the various services concerned.
Saleh Daha, Governor of the Taounate province, explained in a speech on the occasion that this meeting comes in implementation of the Royal instructions regarding the total mobilization of all logistical means and human resources to provide support and assistance to citizens to face the cold wave affecting a number of regions of the Kingdom, and in implementation of the provisions of the ministerial circular regarding the activation of the comprehensive national plan to reduce the repercussions of the cold wave and climate fluctuations.
The Governor of the Taounate province indicated that this plan targets areas located at an altitude exceeding 900 meters with a population estimated at approximately 10,800 people, calling on all stakeholders to contribute to this operation by intervening to clear snow, break the isolation of the concerned Douars, repair damaged road axes, as well as monitor the situation of pregnant women in the target areas, ensure delivery under monitored medical conditions, and provide care for homeless people in centers designated for this purpose.
He also stressed in his speech on the occasion the need to organize a social initiative for the benefit of students and the population of the concerned Douars belonging to both the Tamedit commune in the Taounate district and the Oudka and Retba communes belonging to the Ghafsai district, by organizing multidisciplinary medical caravans within the framework of the 'Riaya' operation, distributing portions of winter clothing and blankets to the elderly from needy families, wheelchairs for people with disabilities, and allocating heating devices and materials for classrooms and administrative offices, in addition to distributing improved iron stoves to the local population living near the forest area.
