A meeting was held at the headquarters of the Larache province prefecture last Monday, chaired by Al-Alamin Bouaassam, the provincial governor, dedicated to discussing the necessary urgent and precautionary ways, measures, and procedures to face the effects of the cold weather wave experienced by many regions of the Kingdom.
A statement received by Hespress indicated that the meeting came within the framework of "implementing the High Royal Instructions aimed at taking urgent measures and necessary procedures through the comprehensive mobilization of all logistical means and human resources to ensure the provision of support and assistance to the population affected by the cold wave that accompanies the arrival of winter and the increasing severity of the weather in a number of regions of the Kingdom."
The statement added that "the meeting was attended by representatives of local and security authorities, the President of the Larache Provincial Council, the presidents of the targeted municipal councils, in addition to the provincial delegate for National Cooperation, the delegate of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and the provincial director of the Ministry of Equipment and Water."
In his speech on the occasion, the provincial governor said that "this meeting comes to raise the level of coordination between various services and local authorities to ensure the effective implementation of the national plan prepared for the current winter season 2024-2025, monitor the development of the situation, and intervene immediately when necessary through rapid response to any emergency, as well as taking proactive preventive measures."
Bouaassam stressed the need for "continuous monitoring and evaluation of the field situation, ensuring the normal supply of basic food items and heating means in the affected areas, mobilizing machinery and equipment to break the isolation of areas threatened by road closures to ensure the continuity of transport and communication networks in the targeted areas, and ensuring their positioning near paths, crossings, and passages threatened by closure, while organizing the distribution of food aid, blankets, and firewood to the most affected groups, as well as ensuring rapid and immediate intervention to rescue residents in critical and emergency situations."
The statement mentioned that the interventions of the representatives of the concerned ministries recalled the efforts made and the programs set to increase the levels of readiness for intervention according to the requirements of the situation.
In this regard, the representative of the National Cooperation delegation recalled the "partnership agreement that brought together the Provincial Committee for Human Development of Larache province, the Provincial Delegation for National Cooperation in Larache, the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and the Nidaa Association for Social Assistance in Larache, to implement the project 'Management and operation of the mobile social services unit for the benefit of people in street situations,' which manages and operates the mobile social services unit within the framework of campaigns to combat the effects of the cold in Larache province; by providing care, medical, and psychological follow-up services and enhancing the social and economic integration of the targeted groups."
The delegate of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection intervened, recalling the medical campaigns scheduled within the framework of the care operation, reviewing the programs intended for implementation; while the provincial director of the Ministry of Equipment and Water reviewed "the arrangements made by the provincial directorate, in coordination with local authorities, as well as the means harnessed to achieve the goals envisaged in this regard."
Following that, the governor of Larache province opened the floor for interventions to those present, most of which focused on ways and measures to ensure the success of this year's program; before the same territorial official concluded the meeting by urging all stakeholders, from local authorities to government actors and elected officials, to "cooperate and work together to implement the programs specific to this operation in service of the King's subjects throughout this province."
