Death of a young man inside a "Sandria" in Jerada

Death of a young man inside a "Sandria" in Jerada

A young man (M.L.), in his thirties, died this afternoon in Jerada inside one of the coal mining wells, which are locally called "Sandrias".

Local sources mentioned that the young man, who hails from the Laouinate commune in the Jerada province, was surprised by the collapse of the traditional well located in the "b12" area.

Elements of the Civil Protection, with the support of "Sandria" workers from the local population, were able to recover the young man's body from inside the well, while an investigation into the incident was opened by order of the competent Public Prosecutor's Office.

It is noteworthy that after the demonstrations that the city witnessed in 2018 in what was then known as the "Jerada Hirak", protesting against the occurrence of victims in coal wells and demanding an economic alternative, the "Sandrias" began to operate under the supervision of licensed cooperatives, but this did not prevent more victims from falling.
