Ifrane intervenes to clear snow from roads

The Ifrane province has experienced heavy snowfall over the past few hours, covering various regions and significantly impacting traffic on a number of national, regional, and provincial road axes, according to official information received by the Hespress electronic newspaper.

In this context, Abdelilah Azmi, the provincial director of the Ministry of Equipment and Water in Ifrane, revealed the current state of the roads in the province, confirming that efforts are ongoing to ensure traffic returns to normal as soon as possible. He noted that the directorate's teams worked throughout the night in coordination with various stakeholders to open the blocked axes.

The same provincial director confirmed, in communication with the Hespress electronic newspaper, that "several main roads are open to traffic, including National Road No. 13 between El Hajeb and Azrou, National Road No. 8 between Immouzer and Ifrane, as well as between Ifrane and Azrou; Regional Road No. 707 is also open between El Hajeb and Ifrane and between Ifrane and Boulemane, in addition to Provincial Road No. 7235 between Timahdite and Almis Guigou, and Provincial Road No. 7216 between National Road No. 13 and Bekrit".

Conversely, some roads are still facing difficulties due to snow accumulation, where passage is being allowed via convoys in some sections, while others remain completely closed. Among these roads is National Road No. 13 between Azrou and Timahdite, which is only accessible via convoys and is closed to large and heavy vehicles; in addition to the road between Timahdite and Ait Oufella, which is experiencing the same situation. Provincial Road No. 7231 between Hebri and Michlifen is also closed to all vehicles, as is the road between Michlifen and Ifrane, according to the same official.

In light of these exceptional weather conditions, the provincial director of the Ministry of Equipment and Water in Ifrane, Abdelilah Azmi, confirmed that "the Ministry of Equipment and Water's machinery is working tirelessly to clear snow and open closed roads, with efforts focused on the main road axes," calling on road users to "exercise caution and adhere to the instructions of the intervention teams, local authorities, and the Royal Gendarmerie, while ensuring vehicles are equipped with snow chains for their safety."

The provincial director of the Ministry of Equipment and Water in Ifrane reiterated the warning to "avoid travel in the current conditions unless absolutely necessary, especially in areas experiencing continuous snowfall," noting that "these interventions come within the framework of the Ministry's commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and the continuity of travel in conjunction with the challenges posed by these snowfalls."

Despite the difficulties imposed by these conditions, the recent snowfall is a positive indicator for strengthening water resources in the province.
