Technical handicraft equipment was handed over last Friday to rural women belonging to cooperatives operating in the production of wool and alfa in several communes of the Figuig province. A partnership agreement was signed on this occasion by the Governor of Figuig, the Regional Director of Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification, and the beneficiary cooperatives, indicates a press release from the Regional Directorate of Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification of the Oriental. These cooperatives have already benefited from training sessions in terms of management, cooperative management, improvement of product quality, and rational exploitation of alfa environments, adds the same source.
According to the press release, this initiative coincides with the celebration of Earth Day, which constitutes the occasion to raise awareness among the population about the importance of the protection and sustainable management of natural resources. In this framework, the Regional Directorate of Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification of the Oriental is taking technical and practical measures to adapt to the challenges imposed by climate change and the phenomenon of desertification in the region. It also works on the development and implementation of environmental and development programs essentially aiming to fight against the overexploitation of environmental systems, to rehabilitate forest heritage, and to create income-generating activities for the valorization of forest products and aromatic and medicinal plants.
