A budget of 350 million DH for urban upgrading

The headquarters of the El Jadida province hosted the signing ceremony of three agreements with the Ministry of Housing and elected Councils, concerning the restructuring of under-equipped neighborhoods and urban upgrading.

Within the framework of supporting the relocation programs for slum dwellers and urban upgrading in the El Jadida province, the province headquarters hosted, last Wednesday, a working meeting in which Nabil Benabdellah, Minister of Housing and Urban Policy, the Governor of El Jadida, and the presidents of the elected councils participated. The work of this meeting focused on the restructuring of neighborhoods and urban upgrading in the El Jadida province. Thus, concerning the requalification program for under-equipped urban and rural centers, three agreements were signed by the Ministry of Housing, the El Jadida province, and its communes, Azemmour, Moulay Abdellah, Sidi Ali Ben Hamdouche, and Ouled Rahmoune. In total, a budget of 350 million DH will be mobilized during the 2016-2018 period. The first agreement concerns the financing and realization of the program for the upgrading and restructuring of under-equipped neighborhoods, dependent on a budget that amounts to 252 million DH. The program provides for the improvement of housing conditions and the strengthening of infrastructure in El Jadida, Azemmour, Moulay Abdellah, Sidi Ali Ben Hamdouche, and Ouled Rahmoune.

The second agreement concerns the financing and realization of the intervention program in the fight against housing threatening to collapse in El Jadida and Azemmour. The budget allocated to this program is around 10 million DH. Finally, the third agreement concerns the financing of the complementary agreement for the requalification and upgrading of four neighborhoods in the El Jadida province, with financing of around 26 million DH. These agreements, signed by Nabil Ben Abdellah and the Governor of the El Jadida province, Mouâd El Jamaï, as well as the presidents of the elected councils of El Jadida, Azemmour, Moulay Abdellah, Sidi Ali Ben Hamdouche, and Ouled Rahmoune, aim to improve the urban space of the province through the reduction of slums, the rehabilitation of neighborhoods lacking infrastructure, the restructuring of substandard housing, and the fight against housing threatening to collapse. Thus, these programs will allow for the implementation of a global vision to create a balanced and complementary urban fabric. At the beginning of this meeting, the Governor of the El Jadida province welcomed the cooperation of the Housing department with the various stakeholders in the management of local affairs at the provincial level, stressing the importance of this meeting which constitutes a new occasion to strengthen the efforts deployed in terms of the fight against slums, substandard housing, and urban upgrading to guarantee the well-being of the population.

In his intervention, Nabil Benabdellah made a point of recalling the priority granted by the government for the reduction of slums through the fight against substandard housing, notably, as well as the implementation of a dynamic policy based on the partnership of all stakeholders. He also reviewed the strategy of the Ministry of Housing at the level of the El Jadida province.
