Against the backdrop of the intensifying conflict in the Hassan district council, after the failure of the motion to dismiss the president, Mustapha Razi, yesterday, Thursday, due to the lack of a legal quorum, with the matter being postponed to next week, the name of Asmaa Rhlalou, former mayor of Rabat, has returned to circulation again.
Two sources from within the Rabat commune told Hespress that the National Rally of Independents party wants to bring Rhlalou back to the scene again amidst a lack of consensus within the majority to head the Hassan district council, succeeding Razi, whose fall is expected next Wednesday.
The two sources attributed this desire to the lack of many options for the party to maintain its seat in the presidency of the aforementioned district, except for Rhlalou as the only candidate in terms of women, which is the only legal formula that will allow the party to do this.
An informed source from the capital's commune opposition revealed that Asmaa Rhlalou, who was previously dismissed, "has no legal means to succeed Razi, and despite that, there is a strange ambition to bring her back".
According to the Hespress source, "most components of the Hassan district council are living in astonishment at the news of Rhlalou's return, which has begun to escalate strongly since yesterday, Thursday".
Rhlalou's name has been mentioned for quite some time, not only within the Hassan district but in the entire Rabat commune, according to another informed source from the majority, who revealed that "the current president, Mustapha Razi, was informed of this name to succeed him some time ago".
The same source continued: "Legally, it will be impossible for Rhlalou to obtain this position in the future, but the keenness of some (without revealing their identities) to bring her back has created a state of widespread controversy in the city's political scene".
In February of last year, Asmaa Rhlalou, the mayor of Rabat at the time, submitted her "resignation from her position to the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, Governor of the Rabat Prefecture", after widespread controversy between her and the majority and opposition regarding many issues and contentious files.
On another note, a source from the majority of the Rabat commune council expressed surprise at "Rhlalou's return", confirming that "the majority with its three parties did not discuss the name of the former mayor of Rabat to succeed Razi at all", pointing out that "all this news is a clear attempt to distract from the most prominent issue, which is Razi's fall from his position next week".
The same source stressed in a statement to Hespress that "the majority does not have internal differences, but is living in a state of complete consensus".
The same speaker revealed that the reason for the failure of the legal quorum to dismiss Razi, yesterday, Thursday, "is due to the travel of three councilors abroad, including Asmaa Rhlalou herself", confirming that "she will be present at the session to dismiss Razi next Wednesday, not to succeed him but because she is only a councilor in the council".
