A gendarme involved in the "Sahara Escobar" case attempted to clear himself of involvement in serving the agenda of the former president of the Oriental region, Abdenbi Bioui, while asserting that he did not know the president of the Ain Sfa commune, Abderrahim Bioui, brother of the leader of the "PAM" party, who is also being held in custody as part of this case.
The gendarme, "Mohamed A.", recounted during his interrogation this Friday by the head of the panel, the details of the incident where he stopped a car carrying the ex-wife of Abdenbi Bioui at a judicial checkpoint in the city of Oujda, denying throughout his answers any personal knowledge of Bioui, the president of the region, or his brother.
The detained gendarme continued to try, before the judge who presented him with the contents of the statements of a relative, "Samia Benmoussa", the ex-wife of Bioui, to deny knowing the latter or his brother Abderrahim, despite the judicial police reports indicating the presence of Abderrahim Bioui at the location of the judicial checkpoint where his brother's ex-wife was stopped, and his threatening her with the harshest words.
The accused gendarme said: "I was the head of a patrol at the judicial checkpoint in Oujda, and my colleague at work stopped a car before returning to me and confirming that there was a problem, as there were two women in the back seats not wearing seatbelts, and one woman refused to provide her identity," adding: "My colleague confirmed to me that, according to what she told him, she was the wife of Abdenbi Bioui, and she would not pay the fine and would not provide identity documents. Then she got out of the car and kept shouting that she was Madame Bioui."
The same speaker indicated that he spoke with the person concerned, but she refused to provide her identity documents, which prompted him to call the head of the Royal Gendarmerie centre to consult him, stating: "He asked me to wait, before calling me back and informing me that she was not Bioui's wife, which made me search the car, in which we found nothing."
The detained gendarme continued before the head of the panel: "During the arrival of the centre commander and the company commander, I began to follow his instructions, which could not be disobeyed, and at that time she presented her national identity card and left that place."
In contrast, the judicial police reports presented by the court to the aforementioned accused state that the relative of Bioui's ex-wife speaks of psychological violence inflicted upon them while they were wearing traditional clothing (takchita) to attend a family wedding, in the presence of Abdenbi Bioui's brother, named Abderrahim Bioui.
The declarant continued, according to the reports presented by the court, that Abderrahim Bioui kept shouting at the Royal Gendarmerie elements and threatening them along with his brother's ex-wife, saying: "It's either me or you," which prompted the Royal Gendarmerie elements to try to calm him down and kiss his head, which made the head of the panel, Councillor Ali Tarchi, address the gendarme standing before him: "Do gendarmes go and kiss the head of a commune president just to keep him happy?" to which the accused replied in the negative: "No, that did not happen, Mr. President."
The detained gendarme denied having prior knowledge of Bioui's brother or having made a phone call to him, noting that many people gathered out of curiosity on the road, but the technical investigations carried out, according to what was presented by the court, indicated the existence of communication between the centre commander and Abderrahim Bioui at the moment of stopping his brother's ex-wife.
The court has decided to postpone the case until next Tuesday, in order to continue the interrogation of all the accused before starting the defence pleadings.
