About Tamegroute
Tamegroute is a town in Morocco, located about twenty kilometres from Zagora, on the old road to Timbuktu, in the Drâa valley.
The town consists of several ksours connected to one another, at the centre of which lies the Zaouïa Naciria. It houses a very rich library, the oldest preserved works of which date back to the 11th century, calligraphed in walnut husk, saffron, henna, or gold on gazelle-skin parchment. These include scientific and literary works, as well as religious collections.
Tamegroute also hosts several artisanal pottery workshops that craft everyday items, tagine dishes, plates, bowls, cups, and tiles, coloured green in kilns heated with palm fronds and small dry wood.
