The Moulay Abdellah Amghar Moussem, which has acquired great fame at the national level, would draw this year more than 500,000 visitors from different regions of Morocco and elsewhere, indicated the organisers during a press conference organised recently at the "Mazagan" tourist site in El Jadida in order to present this religious and cultural event. The Moulay Abdellah Amghar Moussem counts among the oldest and largest of its kind in Morocco. This eclectic event, whose space is covered by a tide of 21,000 tents, is also reputed to be the largest gathering of fantasias with nearly 2,000 horsemen who flock from the different tribes of the region to offer the main attraction of this moussem, they added. Speaking on this occasion, the president of the Moulay Abdellah rural commune, Abdellah Yachkour Maâchi, explained that the realisation this year of several projects in the commune is of a nature to ensure a good welcome to the tens of thousands of visitors who flock to this event. The commune has thus proceeded to the redevelopment of the main artery of this locality along the beach and its large squares which house thousands of tents that serve as cover and lodging for the visitors of the Moussem, he indicated, noting that other projects have seen the light of day and concern in particular the liquid sanitation network, the extension of the road network of the Moulay Abdellah commune, and the strengthening and upgrading of public lighting. Mr. Maâchi made it known that control committees for the safety of marketed food products have also been created with the aim of ensuring a good stay for visitors, observing that this moussem contributes to increasing the income of families working in particular in the restaurant sector. Organised under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI from 8 to 15 August, by the province of El Jadida and the rural commune of Moulay Abdellah, the Moulay Abdellah Amghar Moussem will offer a rich programme of spiritual events around the Moulay Abdellah mausoleum and numerous popular festivities, including large fantasia shows on El Mahrek square and popular art shows of the halka. The week that this Moussem will last will be marked by religious processions and rituals around the mausoleum, conferences on various spiritual themes, and competitions for the psalmody and recitation of the Holy Quran. The evenings of the moussem will be animated by shows by stars of popular song and local musical troupes, including Jamal Zerhouni, Kamal Abdi, Ouled Ben Aguida, Tagadda, Daoudi, Daoudia, and Ould Houat. Exhibition spaces are also set up to showcase local products in particular. As every year, the falconers of the Kouassem tribe will be present to offer shows and demonstrations of this ancestral art of hunting. The organisers have planned a social component including awareness campaigns on the dangers of smoking, diabetes screening campaigns, and medical consultations.
