Some 500 men, supported by several aircraft, mobilised to contain a fire that has ravaged more than 320 hectares in the vicinity of Agadir Ida Outanane, were hard at work on Tuesday afternoon to contain the flames.

"We are facing several constraints linked to the nature of the terrain and the sensitive vegetation cover in this mountainous region, as well as the high temperature and the strength of the wind, which changes direction regularly," indicated the Commander of the Civil Protection for the Souss-Massa-Draa region, Ahmed Kadiri.

Intervention operations are nevertheless continuing intensely, and "the situation has improved somewhat compared to Monday," he assured.

Significant human and material resources have indeed been deployed by local and regional authorities to try to bring under control the fire that broke out on Sunday evening in the dense forest spread across several communes such as Imouzzer, Idmine, and Akesri.
