A forest fire that broke out in the Rmilat region near Tetouan was extinguished on Friday evening, 5 September 2014, after ravaging more than 40 hectares of vegetation. According to the Water and Forestry services, the damaged area is composed of different species of trees characteristic of the region. It is particularly a matter of pines. According to the same source, fanned by excessive heat and strong winds, the fire threatened to reach residential areas. In this sense, containing this fire required more than six hours of continuous work on the ground. Intense aerial and ground interventions took place in close coordination between the civil protection services, the Department of Water and Forestry, the Royal Gendarmerie, local authorities, and the collaboration of the population of this region. An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the fire.
