A forest fire broke out on Sunday evening in the rural commune of Beni Hezmar, in the vicinity of Tetouan, ravaging a significant area of forest and vegetation cover. A source from the provincial Water and Forestry and Anti-Desertification services indicated on Monday that efforts are continuing to extinguish this fire, adding that the area ravaged by the fire and the causes of the fire have not yet been determined. The area affected by the fires is located 12 km south of Tetouan and is essentially covered with pine forest, the same source specified, noting that the fire should be extinguished in the coming hours thanks to the intervention of elements of the Civil Protection, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces, the National Promotion, and local authorities. These services are facing difficulties linked in particular to the rugged terrain of the region, the strong westerly wind, and rising temperatures.
