The Douars of Asrir and Taghmart surrounded by water

The Douars of Asrir and Taghmart (East of Guelmim) are surrounded by the floods of the Oued Sayad and Oued Ouargnoun caused by the rainfall that the Guelmim province experienced on Thursday morning, indicated the Wilaya of the Guelmim-Smara region.

The Wilaya added, in a press release, that a commission from the Ministry Delegate in charge of Water had arrived in the region during the day to assess the situation and evaluate needs in the short and medium term.

This commission, which has begun its work, is currently on site in order to draw up a provisional assessment and collect data on Oued Sayad in order to accelerate the construction of the Ait Hmad dam, rural commune of Fask (about 20 km east of Guelmim) and Oued Tamsourt, commune of Timoulay (about 50 km north-east of Guelmim).

The commission will also have to collect data on the redevelopment of the Ed Daoud dam in Sidi Ifni, the protection of the Al Massira district in the city of Bouyzakarne and the Douar Ouaaroune (Guelmim province) and other regions.

The press release reported the rescue of nine people (five women, three children and one man) who were evacuated by a Royal Armed Forces helicopter from the Ouaroune region to the city of Guelmim.

The evacuated people were rescued at the level of Douar Azdar, after being trapped by floods caused by this bad weather, the same sources specified.

A military helicopter had evacuated, during two operations, 45 people who were victims of the floods in the region, it is recalled.

It should be noted, moreover, that the rescue operations carried out over the last 48 hours in the Guelmim and Souss Massa-Drâa regions, which continue to experience significant disruptions, have allowed the rescue of 113 people in danger, indicates a press release from the Ministry of the Interior on Thursday.

The same source specifies that 35 people were rescued thanks to the air assets deployed by the FAR and the Royal Gendarmerie.

It should be recalled that since the 20th of the current month, 545 people have been rescued in the provinces affected by the bad weather.
