About a hundred hectares affected in a forest fire in Taznakhte

Nearly 100 hectares were affected in a fire that occurred last Friday in the Taznakhte forest, rural commune of Aksri near Agadir, indicates Tuesday the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification, stressing that the fight against the blazes was continuing Tuesday with the participation of teams of 300 elements.

The fire, which travelled through wooded spaces based essentially on thuya and some argan trees, continues to progress despite the efforts deployed by the various fighting teams, notably because of the rugged relief, strong winds, high temperature and low humidity, specifies the High Commission in a press release.

The ground fighting teams made up of water and forests, civil protection, the Royal Armed Forces, auxiliary forces and local authorities supported by a fleet of planes from the Royal Gendarmerie and the Royal Air Forces, intervened urgently to contain the fire.

"The operation led to overcome the blazes was continuing Tuesday, June 19, the date on which the fire is not yet completely controlled", specifies the press release.

The risk of a restart of the fire being always possible, all the teams remain mobilised on the spot to definitively extinguish all the embers in this mountainous zone difficult to access, makes known the press release.

The current season has experienced 121 fire starts over a total burnt surface of 281 ha, of which 130 ha of forest trees, i.e. a rate clearly lower compared to the average of the last ten years which is 530 ha, recorded for the same period.
