Nayef Aguerd has admitted that he is not sure of his future as a West Ham player after being loaned last summer to Real Sociedad. The Moroccan international remains in the dark and is thinking about enjoying his time in La Liga above all else.
Nayef Aguerd, 28, joined Real Sociedad this summer for a one-season loan. However, this loan does not contain a purchase option, forcing the Hammers to ask for at least 25 million pounds for a permanent transfer, according to El Gol Digital.
Asked about this during an interview with Marca, the Moroccan defender, still in the dark, does not seem worried about his future and assured that he was enjoying every moment at Sociedad.
"I'm not going to lie. I came here to get back to my best level, first of all because I wasn't playing at West Ham. I want to enjoy every moment here, as I am doing currently," he declared, before adding:
"I still have two years left on my contract with West Ham, but for the moment, I am only thinking about helping Real Sociedad go as far as possible in the three competitions. There will be time to think about the future later. I don't know if I will have to return, if I will stay here, or if I will go elsewhere. That doesn't depend on me."
While Aguerd was often sidelined by David Moyes during his last season at the London Stadium, new management could see him return to London at the end of his loan.
The Hammers have an urgent need for defensive reinforcements, with Julen Lopetegui only having Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Jean-Clair Todibo as options.
Currently, Aguerd has started in 13 of Real Sociedad's 17 La Liga matches this season, becoming an important piece under the direction of Imanol Alguacil. However, Sociedad will have to avoid getting too attached if no permanent transfer is concluded.
