The environment and its preservation were in the spotlight for a week at the Sidi Bernoussi prefecture. The curtain indeed fell last Saturday on the second edition of Environment Week. Organised on the sidelines of World Environment Day celebrated recently, this event was punctuated by several activities that enlivened the communes of Sidi Bernoussi and Sidi Moumen. "Preserving the environment is everyone's responsibility" is the theme chosen for this edition, in which environmental activists, associations concerned about the challenges of the future around the issue, and local elected officials participated. "This environmental week saw massive participation from the different components of society.
This event aims to develop and strengthen the culture of safeguarding the environment among the general public, as well as to strengthen the capacities of the different stakeholders and actors who campaign for the environmental issue, which constitutes the backbone of sustainable development," the organisers emphasise. Several activities were organised on the sidelines of the event, whether cultural, artistic, or educational. In this sense, a large parade highlighting the environmental challenge toured several arteries of the Sidi Bernoussi prefecture for the occasion. The objective was to make local residents aware of the vital nature of preserving the environment, and this, in a fun way by using the magic that surrounds this type of show. In parallel, several actions were carried out almost everywhere throughout the territory of the prefecture, as well as events with an artistic vocation and related to the theme of this particular week.
"Several volunteers participated in actions in favour of their direct environment, namely the alleys of their neighbourhood, public gardens, etc., all aiming to beautify the appearance of the whole region so that it fits into the dynamic that the Greater Casablanca region is experiencing on the environmental issue," it is indicated. In this sense, voluntary actions in all directions were organised here and there. In addition to the awareness campaign for the benefit of local residents, concrete actions were carried out throughout the week (gardening, tree planting, waste recycling, sidewalks painted with appropriate colours, spontaneous children's paintings, etc.). In addition to conferences and various thematic workshops organised during the event, young participants, mainly children with specific needs, received rewards for their involvement in the environmental issue.
The green fibre
The Sidi Bernoussi prefecture increasingly has the green fibre. Indeed, very recently, the "Casa Environnement" network of associations, whose cause is to improve the environment of the economic capital, organised a first operation called "Development of a model of green and clean streets" (cf. lematin.ma). Indeed, dozens of volunteers gathered in Hay Moubaraka, at the level of the Al-Qods neighbourhood, in order to make their contribution to the beautification of this area. With the involvement of local residents, mainly children, the neighbourhood was cleaned and the sidewalks were painted. In parallel, 160 empty pots were distributed to volunteers who took charge of putting a plant in them.
"This type of initiative makes it possible to root the culture of gardening in children and thus encourage them to beautify their neighbourhoods. Even better, this event could create a rivalry between neighbourhoods to keep their surroundings green and clean," a resident of Sidi Bernoussi had declared to "Le Matin" during this event.
